• Eleven of Shands at UF medical specialties are ranked among the top nationally in the 2008 edition of U.S. News and World Report's "Best Hospitals": cancer, ear, nose and throat, endocrinology, geriatrics, gynecology, heart and heart surgery, kidney disease, neurological services, orthopaedics, respiratory and urology.
• Shands at UF had the highest ranking among Florida hospitals in five specialties: endocrinology, geriatrics, heart, respiratory and urology.
• Solucient ranks Shands at UF and Shands Jacksonville as top-100 heart hospitals.
• Between July 2007 and June 2008 , Shands HealthCare cared for 85,662 patients through admissions. Outpatient and emergency visits totaled 1,377,519.
• Shands HealthCare won the 2008 Governor’s Sterling Award – the state’s top honor for performance excellence. Shands is the largest organization ever to receive this prestigious award since its introduction in 1993.
