Shands also owns an interest in three rural community hospitals in Lake City, Live Oak and Starke as well as in a Gainesville urgent care center. The approximately 1,500 UF faculty and community physicians on our medical staff provide care in more than 100 specialty and subspecialty medical areas, from primary care to highly complex care, including cancer, cardiovascular, neurology, neurosurgery, pediatrics and transplantation services. Each year, patients come to the Shands system from all 67 Florida counties, throughout the nation and more than a dozen countries. Our multidisciplinary teams of UF physicians along with Shands’ employees and volunteers are the foundation for our health system’s outstanding reputation for world-class, quality patient care. The Shands family of hospitals and programs includes two teaching hospitals, Shands at UF and Shands Jacksonville; two specialty hospitals, Shands Rehab Hospital and Shands Vista behavioral health; a network of outpatient rehabilitation centers; and two home health agencies. Shands is affiliated with more than 80 UF physician outpatient practices located throughout north central and northeast Florida. Our system offers two state-designated Level I trauma centers, two Level III neonatal intensive care units, a regional burn center, and two emergency air and ground transport programs that serve adult, pediatric and neonatal patients.
