The very heart of the Shands HomeCare team is the Registered Nurse. Nursing services are those skilled services, provided in the home by a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse under the direction of a physician's order.

These services include but are not limited to the following:

• Wound Care
• Ostomy Care
• Monitoring Medications
• Intravenous Therapy
• Tube Feedings

Evaluation of:

• Heart
• Lungs
• Blood pressure
• General physical condition
• Patient progress

Teaching:

• About the patient's condition
• Medications and their side effects
• Safety precautions in the home
• Bowel and bladder training
• Use of medical equipment in the home
• Family to care for someone in the home

These services and many more are delivered to the homes of patients by our HomeCare staff. The length of the visit to the home will vary with the patient's condition and the physician's orders.
