Gift Shop
The Gift Shop is a non-profit organization that is owned and operated by four separate volunteer organizations. All proceeds benefit Shands at UF and the UF Health Science Center.

It offers a wide range of items including cards, candy, flowers, balloons, books and magazines, personal hygiene items, Gator souvenirs, and jewelry.

The Gift Shop is open Monday through Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Department of Patient and Family Resources is available for

  • Crisis assistance
  • Information and referral
  • Discharge planning
  • Housing
  • Transportation assistance
  • Patient education
  • Child Life activities for pediatric patients

If you need assistance in any of these areas, please call 352.265.0224 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you need assistance at another time, please call the Shands Consultation Center at 1.800.749.7424 or 352.265.8000. A hospital staff member will help you reach the social worker on call.

Pastoral Services
Chaplains are available to patients and their families for

  • Counseling
  • Support
  • Rituals of faith
  • Communication link with spiritual resources in the patient's home community

If you would like to be visited by a chaplain or a clergy member of a specific faith, please make a request through a staff member or by calling 352.265.0224 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. After regular hours, please call the Shands Consultation Center at 352.265.8000 or 1.800.749.7424. A representative can contact the
on-call chaplain for you.

Chapel
The Inter-Faith Chapel, located in room 1211 on the first floor of Shands at UF across from the cafeteria exit, is open 24 hours a day for patients and visitors of any religion.

Ronald McDonald House
The Ronald McDonald House is a 30-bedroom house established for use by the parents and families of children being treated at Shands Children's Hospital and University of Florida clinics. For a modest donation, families can stay at the house, which is located within walking distance of Shands at UF.

The Shands Admissions Department can help you make arrangements to stay at the Ronald McDonald House.

American Cancer Society's Winn-Dixie Hope Lodge
Hope Lodge provides comfortable, temporary housing for out-of-town patients who are receiving cancer treatment. Hope Lodge is capable of serving up to 45 patients plus one companion per patient and is within walking distance to Shands at UF. Residents also can take the Shands Visitor-Parking Shuttle.

Patients must be referred to Hope Lodge by a Shands at UF social worker.

Transportation, Lodging and Care Program
The Shands Transportation, Lodging and Care program is available to patients and families who need to stay in Gainesville overnight. The program provides discounted rates and other services at a nearby hotel.
